The Buildup and Hypocrisy of Free Agency At Its Worst

With all due apologies to Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, for borrowing a slice of Karnevil #9, the silly buildup to this silly charade . . . honestly, after Bosh/Wade announced they were signing with Miami, was there no doubt Lebron was going there? Why go thru the exercise of having a TV show, and then say that proceeds will go to the Boys and Girls Club . . . . show me the checks for 500K that will go to the charity as opposed to ESPN, and I'll back off a tad.

Is this now Lebron's league?? I hope not. He may be a better physical talent, but he ain't no Larry, or Magic, or Air Jordan . . . he's been a pro for 7 years . . . Bird turned his team around in year 1 . . . . from 29 wins to 61 . . . from Sidney Wicks and Curtis Rowe to a contender . . . it takes a team to win, which is why some of the USA dream teams were not great, because when all things are equal, someone has to play defense, rebound, pass, and run some offensive sets - ya can't just nod at Lebron, or Charles, or whoever, every time and say 'take it to the hole big fella' . . .

Realistically, who is going to play the point and center for this new Miami Heat team, or 2 guard, assuming that D Wade and Lebron take turns carrying the rock up. . . . and who can you afford to have on your bench, unless a few crafty vets are willing to play for veteran minimum . . . unless your owners are like the Celts and will go over the cap big time to run an all star team. . . . .

Back to my original premise . . . . don't you think that Lebron is a little full of himself? That's kinda like saying a Chrysler New Yorker is a big car . . . duh . . . in this current society where people are fighting to get by and dealing with whatever their lot is, it's pretty hard to relate to or care about someone who is trying to promote themselves as the next big thing, when in any team sport you stil need 5 starters and 3-4 people minimum off the bench to have the staying power . . . .

So if you love sports, and you don't like the concept of a dream team, or blatant free agent collusion, support teams that support the team concept, pay their players well . . . but not to the point where the team concept is crushed. Maybe my glasses are rose colored, but I like where the Celts are at - they will do battle with the same basic team - looks like Jermaine Oneal is their stopgap at center . . . . the big three return, 2 at a reduced salary, more in line with their current skill . . . and they can field a team, bring in some role players, and move ahead . . .

Come on all ye jesters, come on all ye fools . . . . Lebron you better watch out . . . is someone fooling you?? we'll find out this fall.
